Oil Tank Removal & Replacement About Home Heating Oil Tanks

Storage tanks containing home heating oil, whether they’re located underground, above ground or in the basement, can rust and leak over time. This can pose a number of environmental and health risks. In the event of a storage tank discharge where heating oil comes into contact with soil or ground water, laws require homeowners to take prompt action to minimize those risks.

Danisi provides new tanks, replacement tanks and provides tank remediation services for home and commercial uses.

A fuel storage tank can be an Underground Storage Tank (UST) or an Above-ground Storage Tank (AST). Home heating oil tanks can vary in size, from 275 gallons to over 1,000 gallons. The size of the tank is sometimes dependent upon the age of the house, the size of the house and the home owner’s personal oil consumption. Danisi offers a full line of quality Oil Tanks and Expert Installation Services.
Underground Fuel Storage Tank (UST) and Oil Tank Removal A UST is defined as a tank and any of its associated piping that has at least 10% of its combined volume underground. A UST may contain petroleum products or certain hazardous substances.
What Are the Steps for Cleanup?
The following are some of the steps Danisi will take to clean up fuel oil contamination. All cleanups will differ depending on individual circumstances. These steps are described here to help you better understand the general cleanup process.
If the storage tank is underground and must be removed, it will be removed according to local codes and the American Petroleum Institute’s recommended practices. To perform a tank removal, the tank is uncovered, rendered free of ignitable vapors, cut open and cleaned of all product and product residue. The tank is then entered by a Danisi technician who visually inspects the tank for breaches. The tank will be thoroughly cleaned and properly disposed of or recycled at a scrap metal facility. Once the tank has been removed, any contaminated soils will be excavated to standards that meet the Environmental Protection Agency’s cleanup criteria. Soils over the tank may be separated from the contaminated soil and used as fill material, which will save on disposal and fill costs. Once contaminated soil has been removed, soil remaining in the excavation site will be sampled to document the effectiveness of the cleanup. Soil disposal may represent the largest part of cleanup costs. Therefore, it is important that you contact Danisi immediately after discovering a leak of any size. The sooner the problem is resolved, the more likely it is that cleanup costs can be reduced.
